Mon Nov 5The Abbey Hotel, Donegal Town, for the next 4 nights

Upon our early arrival in Dublin, we'll head northwest toward Donegal, stopping for breakfast in Enniskillen at the Lough Erne Resort, on the shores of the beautiful lough (lake) of the same name. Arriving in Donegal Town, we'll visit the imposing 17th century Donegal Castle prior to checking in at our hotel directly downtown. Dinner is at our hotel this evening. (B,D)

Tue Nov 6

After breakfast, we head west toward Killibegs - the largest fishing port in both County Donegal and all of Ireland! The town lies at the foot of a vast mountainous region to the north and offers a very scenic harbor. Today we'll also visit the Glencolumbkille Valley with its ancient monuments, Ardara and the Glengesh Pass viewpoint. Ardara is a designated Heritage Town and is well-known as a center for the manufacture of Donegal homespun tweeds. The remainder of the day is at your leisure, with dinner on your own at any of a number of excellent restaurants and pubs within steps of the hotel. (B)

Wed Nov 7

This morning we head north, making a stop at the Gap of Mamore, passing a number of holy relics in the area. A holy well devoted to St. Eigne, along with a small altar of statues, commemorate Pagan times when locals had to practice their religion in secret to avoid persecution. Malin Head, famous for its rugged coastal scenery, is next on our drive. Nearby, at Lagg, we'll find the largest sand dunes in Europe! Continuing on to explore more of the rugged and beautiful Inishowen Peninsula, we'll then return to our hotel for dinner this evening. (B,D)

Thu Nov 8

This morning, we head south to visit the Northern Ireland town of Belleek, about 25 miles from Enniskillen. We'll tour the Belleek factory - the world-famous pottery maker  - of which no two pieces are the same. For over 150 years they have been producing fine china, valued all over the world. There will be an opportunity to purchase a piece or two of course! We'll continue on to visit Drumcliff Churchyard in Sligo, best known worldwide as the final resting place of poet William Butler Yeats (1865 - 1939). His great grandfather was, in fact, Rector here in the early 19th century. Dinner tonight is on your own. (B)

Fri Nov 9 –  Croke Park Hotel, Dublin for our final night

Today we travel to the remote and beautiful Glenveagh National Park, north of Donegal Town, with its castle and gardens, set around a wilderness lake in the heart of the Derryveagh Mountains.
